Do lens rental companies offer insurance on their rentals?

Anyone happen to know if you rent from a lens rental company if they offer insurance on the equipment you rent? Accidents do happen and I would hate to have to replace something that was used to begin with at full price.

Usually insurance is a part of the rental fee. But yes, it would be good to know in advance.

I wouldn't rent with out that peace of mind of having insurance. Imagine renting a 500mm and accidentally drop it :pinch: then finding out you have to pay for the complete cost :pinch: :pinch:

Technically, only someone who has passed the appropriate exams and has a license can sell insurance. What you can buy from a rental company is a damage waiver. It's similar, but it's important to know that you're not buying an insurance policy.

A damage waiver will excuse you from responsibility for certain perils, such as the rental lens being damaged from a fall. It usually won't offer you anything for total destruction of the lens or loss due to theft.

It is often better and cheaper to obtain a true insurance rider on your home insurance policy to cover rented equipment. Talk to your insurance agent or broker for advice.

We offer optional insurance. It's somewhere between $6-39 typically depending on the item.

It covers the items from damage, but not theft, loss or water damage. Most people buy it and A LOT of gear gets damaged in the field. Check out Facebook page if you want to see the pics :)

Do you think that offering that coverage that people might be more careless with the equipment, knowing that if they scratch it, dent it, drop it, things will be OK because they have coverage for that?
