Tilt shift lenses - Schneider vs LensBaby

12 years 9 months ago #126779 by Happy-pixel
Someone was telling me that the Schneider Wide Angle 28mm f/2.8 PC Super-Angulon Manual Focus SLR Lens was the same as a LensBaby.

Now I'm not sold on this as there seems to be a considerable difference in price between the two. Schneider looks like it has some impressive optics inside where the LensBaby is nice but not on the same playing field IMHO. Am I correct?

No comparison here....The lensbaby isn't even in the same league

Scoot is correct. Two different leagues.

I've owned the Leica version of the 28mm PC (same Super Angulon lens made by Schneider). It's a classic, that you never need to upgrade. The best you can get.

I also have an original Lensbaby. A fun tool to use.

Matthew :)

FYI a former student is doing ads for Lensbaby. She shoots dreamy kids portraits with it that look really good. It CAN be used for art work. Nothing wrong with using one and a LOT cheaper than the Schneider. But optically, they are on opposite ends.

I have a Nikkor 28mm f/3.5 PC, and it is very good, though still not a match for the Schneider- few optics ever are... But you may find one on e-bay for less than half the list price of the Scneider. Just make sure you know wh you want one...

:agree:
Exactly! PCs are specialty lenses and being such have their uses. Would I like to have one sure but would I use it enough to justify buying it no. For a lens like this you may try the rental companies and see if this is the type of lens you can really utilize.

FYI the Schneider 28mm PC is a shift, not a TILT lens. It can be used for small format architecture and similar things, but not the miniature look.

Just noticed your title "Re: Tilt shift...."
