Best Lens to use in Iceland?

6 years 4 months ago #553280 by rappatt195
Hi,
I am looking for some suggestions on what type of lenses I should take to an upcoming trip to Iceland. I own the 5D Mark IV and have a Canon 35mm f1.4L and Canon 85mm f/1.8. I was debating on renting a 70-200mm but now am rethinking all of my lenses as the trip gets closer. I am mostly interested in taking photos of the Northern Lights/Waterfalls and just general landscapes and if I spot some wildlife then sure that too. Any helpful tips are appreciated.

Those are conflicting requirements.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone post a photo of "wildlife" in Iceland. And doesn't wildlife imply 300-600mm? I found this , which lists a very few number of animals.

If you want to do landscapes, that 35 is fine, or rent a 24 or 20. The 85 will work well for street and sightseeing. A 70-200 is also a fun lens, but I rarely use mine when travelling, and I've found that animals need a really long lens, longer that 200.

In short, you need to figure out what you tend to photograph, and choose lenses accordingly. No one can answer that for you.
