found cheap filters on ebay

I am looking to buy a 52mm neutral density filter for Nikkor 18 - 55mm lens. I am looking on ebay and see a bunch of cheap ones for like 10 bucks. Are these still legitimate, should I be spending more than 10 bucks on a ND filter?

You get what you pay for, I would personally go with a major brand to insure quality.

I'd stay away from the "cheap" filters on eBay as well. That said, just because a filter is expensive doesn't mean it's a better quality filter...Do some research first....Plus, I've found the the "Cokin" style filter holders are the most versatile, but the Cokin resin filters leave much to be desired. By getting this type of filter, it's less expensive than either getting filters either for all of your lenses or conversely, getting a filter to fit the largest & then step rings for all the others. Added benefit with graduated ND filters is that you can adjust exactly where to place the seperation ...

Well never buy cheap and buy larger than you actually need or the square gel filters. You can get stepping rings to adapt down, in the case of rounds and, either hold the gels over the lens or use a holder. What this does is gives you the best use of your filter for multiple lenses as, you aquire glass. I like to use both gels and rounds. What I like to do is get the best bang for the buck which means costing more initially but with more vesratility in the long run.
