Tamron SP AF 17-50mm f/2.8 or the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8

I think I'm ready to try out Tamron for a mid range focal length. What I am looking for is a fast lens to have on my D700, something that will be good for portraits. Which of these 2 lenses would you pick up?

Maybe others will see it differently but I would say for portrait use you would want a lens that is no less than "normal" ... or about 50mm and above. Since you have a D700, I would lean toward recommending the 28-75mm. But I would also check KEH.com for some quality used Nikkor options too....like the Nikkor 105 f2.5 or an AF Nikkor 80-200mm f2.8D (great for fullframe portraits).

It pays to shop around for good glass.

It is what it is.

For portrait work I would go with the 28-75mm, you get into to wide of angle for portraits with the other lens.
