I am wondering what kind of filter I should use on my camera for outdoor portriats? And can you tell me what a filters will do for me.

Outdoor harsh overhead sun, maybe a warming filter. Other than that, Id also say the only one you'd probably need is a polarizer.

Polarizing filters make peoples skin look strange.

Filters won't be of much benefit for outdoor portraits.

What you really need is a reflector or two including a diffuser capability, a good speedlight and the capablity to use it off camera.

So no filters at all? Ok, scratch that off the list. Now I am looking to find a reflector and a flash. I don't think I can afford a flash that I can use off the camera...that sounds expensive.

Go to a hobby shop and get a cheap piece of white foam-core. It works fine as a reflector. In harsh light make sure you bounce some light under the chin and eye sockets.

Will help to have a friend who can hold it for you.
