Budget/beginner Speedlight Flash for Nikon

Hey!

I'm looking for a budget speedlight flash for Nikon cameras. I'll only use it for macro photography, where I use the Sigma 105mm F2.8 as my main lens.

I hope you can recommend some flashes and maybe point out the most important features/things for a speedlight flash in macro photography.

In general, the Yongnuo products seem to be well-regarded, and very modestly priced.

For macro, you might want to consider a ring light. Stay away from LED continuous light, though, as they're usually not very strong. Get an actual flash. I can't recommend any particular budget brand, however.

Thanks for the reply. I've heard that ring lights aren't that good compared to the price.

I'm currently looking at the Yongnuo YN560 III and the Nikon SB-600. Which one do you think is the better one?

Value? The Yongnuo. I think it also will optically slave, which the SB-600 won't do (I had one and sold it). Now I just just a cheap manual flash. I think TTL is overrated, anyway.

G'day Rasmus

I agree with Gary ... I use Yongnuo flashguns and they're great little beasties. They also slave very easily - so that 2x of them for the price of a Nikon "genuine" flashgun will give you a huge up-front advantage. You can use lo-power on-camera flash to trigger hi-power slave flash - maybe hand held off to the side and all sorts of other tricks
