Jumping Spider on the hood

10 years 1 month ago - 10 years 1 month ago #368263 by Screamin Scott
First jumping spider capture of this year. Was rolling my trash cans down to the curb when I spotted it on the hood of my car. Shot with a
Nikon D300 fitted with an older MF Lester Dine 105mm macro &
matching Lester Dine Ring/Point light...ISO 200, SS 1/200th, F11
(noticed afterwards that I had 2/3 stop of ex comp dialed in from a
previous shoot)... North Georgia USA metro area... The "dots" are Pine tree pollen... Edit : went out a bit later & most of the pollen was washed away thus revealing the reflection better (yes, it was still there)...   www.flickr.com/photos/screaminscott/13857026603/

Oh my goodness.  I HATE spiders, huge irrational fear, but somehow I'm cool with jumping spiders.  They're sort of charming.
Now you need to catch one with a water droplet on its head

Nicely done, I like the reflection in the second one

Spiders are normally not cute, but with these photos they look friendly and amiable. Nice post!

Pretty amazing shots. But, aren't these spiders poisonous?

Venomous yes, poisonous, no... All spiders are venomous but most have venom that is at most like a bee sting. Unless of course you are sensitive to it. Plus most spiders fangs are not large enough to penetrate human skin deep enough...Jumping spiders fall into this category as most are very small (less than 1/4" long)...
