Lightning Show - August 21, 2011

Not so much the bolts (there are a few) but the lighting up of the dark sky and clouds about 8 miles out over the ocean. Here are a few and you can see the rest in the album posted in my profile. If I had thought to bring my video camera, you would be able to see the hour long show I was watching and photographing.... Yes I know they are distant, but I was trying to catch as much of the sky as possible, and didn't have a tripod. Had to use a small table I brought down with me to set the camera on.

Nice shots Joie, that's quite a menacing sky you captured. Do you Not have a tripod??

I had a (basic) tripod... Recently, the head broke (Unrepairable) and one of the leg support rods broke a while back, so I finally had to part with it... I got a good 7-8 years out of it. Now just trying to fit a new one into my budget. One that more suits my needs, now that I have gotten to be a bit more advanced with my photography and want to try new things.

Thanks for asking... I will post a picture of my makeshift camera stablization setup. Had to take a pic of it the other day just so people can see what I am dealing with right now...

Love the angry mother nature shots! I bought a used tripod. It is a manfrotto dinasaur from the 70's-love it I could stand on it and it wouldn't move. I did however buy a new head for it. Oldie but a goodie
