Does this photo work?

I took this photo and I'm wondering if it works for people here. I am struggling to decide myself. Overall I'm unhappy with the clarity of the eagle itself but I'm not sure exactly where my expectations should lie. So what does everyone here think about the photo?

It's an interesting perspective and (almost) silhouette. I think the photo might have more space than needed - there's a nice pattern of the wings and white clouds against the blue sky, just maybe not so much of the blue would be better. I'd think about making copies and trying some cropping and see how it would look.

As per your request I made a couple other crops of the image.

Here they are:

I'd think about the pattern or design of the clouds, you might want to try a little more space (more blue) showing around that pattern of white on blue that you see in the clouds.

Crop too tight on left wing in the first one.

Some reason photos aren't working, I'll try and fix it shortly.

For me, I think you're trying too hard and missing what makes the photo interesting.  This is what it said to me (and I will of course remove the image if you do not want it posted). No offense intended of course, but sometimes it's easier to show than described. Well, actually, it's almost always easier.  Of course, YMMV.

Nice capture, by the way. You got lucky with the clouds and the add an extra layer.

Keep in mind that every new photo needs a unique name on your computer, before you upload it. Or the server thinks it already has a copy.  This is a defect in the forums that I've asked to be rectified, but alas, not yet.

Wow, i didn't think about doing that, I was worried about lightening the photo up too much, what did you do to do that edit?

Agreed lol... I've spent the majority of the night trying to replicate it, with little to no success lol :P

Seems like he used layers in PS.

Or brushes in LR.

Select the bird and cut it out in PS. Then adjust the exposure on that layer.

OR use a brush in LR to increase the exposure on the bird.

I supposed multiple exposure layers might work, I tried using curves, exposure and brightness/contrast masks to imitate his edit and ended up with an over processed product twice. Ill do some exposure only editing in the morning. (Hopes Gary will have unveiled his secrets by then.) :P

*blush* Well, golly, I'm glad you like it.

I'll post the LR settings in the morning. No layers, no PS, just edited the jpg from your post in LR 5. I did apply a brush over the bird to enhance some of its aspects.

I'll give you a hint to chew on :-) I turned the clarity down. A lot. Everywhere.

Can I use your image for a tutorial?
