I Thought the Bird Was Injured

I came across this bird near the beach. He/she let me get quite close and I thought he/she was injured or sitting on a ground nest because he/she didn't move. Happily after watching him/her for a few minutes he/she took off without a problem and perched in a tree. I checked the spot and there was nothing unusual.

Local birds do the same after a bath in summer, they spread their wings to dry them....me thinks.

Could be. The shot was about 30 feet from the ocean. Bob
