The close up is an exposure stack of about 10 images to extend the dof so pretty much
all of the little guy is focus. Profiles are a lot easier. Tip when doing this is to fix the exposure so there are no tonal changes through the sequence.. Of course if the sun goes behind a cloud you have to start again, similarly if the critter moves a smidgen you also have to start again - this type of shot can take ages to complete sometimes.
