Hi All

Hi All,

New to Photography Talk. I've working on my photography for several years now. I took the plunge several years ago and bought my first DSLR, Nikon D40. I've been learning it as much as I can. I've recently delved more into portrait work. I was kind of forced into it by a niece who asked me to take her senior photos. So now I am spending more time with portraits and strobist stuff than I ever thought I would when I started.

:welcomeclan If portraits is not your thing, don't continue with it. Doing a favor for a family member is nice, but if a photographer is not comfortable shooting something, the pictures won't turn out good. Did you charge your neice? At least charge her for the prints? You may be the uncle, but you shouldn't carry all the expense of the senior shoot on your shoulders.

Thanks everyone! While portraits weren't really my thing to begin with. I am growing to like them. I've spent a bunch of time reading books and going through the Strobist Pool on Flickr.

I'm starting to spend more time doing portraits and feel like I am starting to get the hang of it.

I think night time stuff, light painting, long exposures are still the most fun to do though...
