Which lens or lenses to get? and best price?

Hi. I am ready to get a "good" camera and would appreciate any help in deciding which lens or lenses to start with. My last good camera was a Minolta Maxxum back in high school. I remember one thing I didn't like about that set up was I felt like I was constantly needing to change lenses. Which more often than not caused me to miss shots. I think I want a Nikon D90 but am torn as to what lens (or lenses) to get to start with. I will be mostly photographing nature, wildlife, etc. (from my kayak) Or candid photos of my wife and girls. At first, I thought I would just get the 18-200VR lens, but I'm not sure it will be enough to get up close as I would like. So what about the Nikon 28-300VR in addition to the kit that comes with the 18-105 VR lens?
Next part, best price? Amazon has the best price/deal I've found so far. The D90 alone is 799 but combined with a lens, take off $250 for the 18-200 or $300 for the 28-300. And the kit with the 18-105 is 939. So the d90 with 18-200 is somewhere around $1250 and the kit plus the 28-300 is about $1650. I think I want to stick with Nikon lenses and definitely the VR ones. I just don't want to buy something I won't use or find out that I should've bought something different. Thanks in advance for any info that will help me make a decision. Kelly

Just remember that the versatility of super zooms is somewhat offset by design limitations...In other words, there is no one do all lens. These super zooms, while nice as walk around lenses, can't do all aspects well. There are compromises . For instance, if you want to isolate your subject from a busy background by a shallow depth of field, it really can't be done effectively with say a 28-300 as the maximum aperture isn't large enough. Yeah, the VR allows you to hand hold the longer telephoto lenses by as much as 4 stops, but if your subject is an action scene, VR doesn't help...So I'd suggest a super zoom only as a "snapshot" type lens...They design lenses to give optimal performance at certain focal lengths & apertures due to the laws of physics, so the super zoom becomes a "jack of all trades but a master of none" as they can't design it for optimal performance at every setting...
