105mm is usually a portrait lens but I have seen 85mm and 100mm portrait lenses as well

On a FX camera anything between 85 and 135 is generally considered good for portraits.

May I suggest the new Sigma 85 1.4. It's had some very favourable reviews.

The 50mm is also a good lens and doesn't cost too much, if price matters.

Tamron 90mm is pretty good too, borrowed one for a while and didn't mind it at all. Great macro lens.

It is what it is.

I generally shhot single-subject portraits with my 85mm f/2.8.
It allow me to control the DOF and not be so close to the subject that they feel uncomfortable.
It's also kind to facial features.

I'll second the 105, and you could get the newer VR version and have a terrific macro lens, too................;)

Why so serious?
