Rubber grip replacement for Nikon D300

11 years 11 months ago #224491 by Vladimir
My grip is peeling off my D300. Where can I order a replacement and what glue is recommended for this? This is so annoying, why do some camera's have issues with their grips and others don't. Does Nikon use different contact cements?

You might contact Nikon repair for a quote to repair the camera. I know of no do-it-yourself kit, but you might find one via google......

I've been having the same problem with my Canon 1D Mark II. Only near the CF-SD card door was the rubber peeling up. Yet, in light of rapidly searching for the "cure", there really isn't a solid one. But, be weary of sending or getting a quote to repair, because manufacturers like to search for other problems that you many not be aware of. And I've seen many a posts relating to this issue, and they've had the cameras returned with more issues. So, the way that I do it, is simple. The Nikon D300's and up are all utilizing the Magnesium Alloy construction. This is good, because some cements can corrode away the rubber grip [AND] entry level DSLR polymer plastic bodies. Since you're technically safe, I used 3M spray mount; comes in a black can, hard to miss on the art supply shelf. Just simply remove the whole rubber piece; or enough to expose more rubber, get a Q-tip or toothpick, spray a large layer on to some cardboard, take the utensil, and generously apply the spray mount on the loosened area. Take caution, that this may take some time to cure. There also might be some leftover or "hanging" mount around the area you've applied, this is ok. It will eventually fall off from your finger oils.

I hope that helped!

No eBay APP ID défined in Kunena configurationI wouldn't use just any adhesive...Replacement grips can be had from eBay stores & likely Amazon as well...Here's a link to an eBay page listing replacement parts...

3M Spray Mount will not corrode nor melt the grip rubber. It's used industrially for setting paper on foam core, photos to metal mounts, etc....The glue is a fairly rubbery; malleable substance that adheres similarly to the actual adhesive on the actual grips. Now I know this is safe for a magnesium alloy body construction not a plastic body. I would not be held liable for any corrosion of polymer plastic camera bodies. It was merely an experiment that worked. I wouldn't try anything else outside of purchasing new grips and/or approved accessories/ glue for the grips.
