cant upload raw

I have a Nikon D40. I have all but given up on shooting in raw, because every time I try it I can't get the photos to import off of my card. My computer doesn't even recognize the fact that they are on the card. Is something wrong, or do I need certain software or something?

Capture NX2 is the Nikon software solution. I believe there are others.

you will need to download the RAW ( NEF in Nikon terminology) converter from your photo software's website. If it's Adobe, check their website for the converter for the Nikon D40. Each new camera model, it seems, has its own RA
W converter. Follow the directions carefully, they are a little tricky but the directions are clearly written in a step by step fashion. Good Luck.

You don't say what photo software you are using. Most will automatically work with RAW. An alternative if they don't is Adobe Camera Raw. The program is Adobe DNG Converter 6.2, which is a stand-alone RAW program. The link is

www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product....indows&promoid=HTENA

Use this to convert the RAW file to a format your software can use.

But if you are at all serious about digital photography, you should consider Adobe Lightroom if you are using Windows.
