My plan of Action

I have a D50 with a 70-300 and the 105mm amd a 50mm which I used to teach myself the basics...... a few years back I saved up and go the D200 and the 70-200 f2.8 lens with a 1.4 teleconverter

Im on a limited income and have saved up a bit and Im looking at buying secondhand the Nikkor 24-70 f2.8 and the Nikkor 12-24 f2.8 lens as these 3 lens cover most needs

my POA is to get these F2.8 quality lens and then save to upgrade the D200 at a later date hoping to pick up one of the models out of my price range ,second hand.

my question is... Am I doing this all back to front? should I be investing in a newer camera body and cheaper lens or is my intuition telling me right , that the D200 is a good workhorse made all the better with higher quality lenses?

While I'm not too familiar with Nikon or Nikkor, it seems the concesus is that glass is the better way to go if you had to choose. As for lens choice, I wish I would've waited and saved up the 70-200 f2.8, instead of getting the 70-200 f4. The f4 is a fantastic lens. But it's not fast enough for many the things I shoot. So I'd say you're making the right decisions. Keep in mind, as I said, I don't know the particulars of your camera.

As a Nikon shooter I would say that you are going in the right direction with your lens upgrades before you upgrade your body. The D200 is a good body and the lenses will work well with it.

That's a good game plan, get the good glass then upgrade your body later down the line. Nice choices on the glass you have picked. Might I suggest you take a look at KEH.com as they have some good prices on used gear.

:agree: KEH is very generous on the grade of their used equipment, I have never regretted buying from them.

Great plan, buy the glass that you need/want, THEN get the fancy body. Also I wouldn't call the D200 a slouch...if you shoot @ 400 and under ISO like I do with the D200, you'll never be disappointed with it.

It is what it is.

I also have to agree that KEH is the way to go in buying used to save money. I have never got a bad lens from them yet, and the one bargain grade lens I got from them was what I have seen others rate as good, or better.
You are on the right path in focusing on glass over body upgrades. I try not to do the body upgrades myself but sometimes something like the D300 comes out, or the D800 now, and my hands start to shake wanting to buy.
