will price start to drop now

I am just wondering, now that the D7000 is on the market, if the D300s will start dropping in price. What do you think?

Maybe - Nikon wanted to target the D7000 between the D90 and the D300S. The D300S has more bells and whistles but the D7000 has better performance. If you're looking for a bargain you might want to hunt down a used D300.

Would you buy a used camera body? I thought you want to buy used lens but buy new bodies. How can you even tell how many photos a used camera has taken? It might have a 100,000 photos taken already and you paid premium used price for it, under the impression you got a "barely used camera". LOL I have a friend who bought a used camera and was told it only had a few days use on it. After a week the camera had some issues, so he brought it into a service shop. In the process of fixing it, they told him the camera had something like 99,070 photos taken on it! Whoops! The seller wouldn't answer his calls.

Yeah, that's the bad part about buying used especially from an individual that you don't know.

Alas - it also depends on how long and for what you intend to use the camera. Unless you'll change your mind a lot I would assume you'll use the D300 as your main camera - and keep it for a while.

You're basically correct re lenses - as you normally keep them much longer than the camera - but if you get a decent warranty (in other words you buy fro a company like Adorama) you should be OK. If you buy from an individual you don't know or trust - watch out.

If you buy a 'refurbished' camera you can get a warranty through a company called "SquareTrade". Check them out at www.squaretrade.com Maybe you can work something out that way.

Don't be afraid of used bodies - just about any EXIF viewer will report the number of shutter actuations. Opanda is the most frequently cited . . .

FWIW, I purchased both of my bodies used (the D700 had less than 1,500 actuations, and my D300 less than $5,000 . . .and I can safely say that I've made enough money using both those bodies to replace them, but I saved hundreds each in the original purchase.
