Nikon has been on a roll this year with its newest lineup of full frame DSLR camera bodies, from the pro-grade D800 and D4 to the affordable, entry level D600 . With less than two months left in 2012, Nikon has a fifth DSLR body yet to be revealed. Nodding to its loyal DX cropped sensor body fans, all of whom have already enjoyed the new D3200, we and other photo enthusiasts are speculating that Nikon has a D5200 up its sleeve that promises to be announced in early November. Technical specs point the D5200 as falling into the mid-range DSLR camera body family, topping the entry level D3200 , and replacing the D5100 . By the way, both the D5100 and D3200 are listed at the exact same price on Amazon, hinting that a replacement DSLR is more than likely on the way!

The D5200 will use a 24-megapixel DX-format CMOS sensor with an EXPEED 3 processor, similar to the D3200. Core differences lie in the D5200’s higher ISO range which will be from 100-6,400 (expandable to 25,600, double the limit of the D3200) and its slightly faster 5fps continuous shooting speed. The new DSLR will also have a 3-inch vari-angle LCD screen as well as a 2,016 pixel RGB metering sensor

Nikon’s D5100 was first announced in April 2011 as an entry level version to the D7000 . Photography enthusiasts raved about the D5100’s stellar video quality with a variety of special effects shooting options and high resolution image sensor. The D5100 was also Nikon’s first DSLR to include a swiveling LCD display and in-camera high dynamic range (HDR) processing. All in all, the D5100 is a flexible yet affordable camera for Nikonians.

Rumors are abuzz that the newest DX member of the Nikon family could be unveiled as early as on November 6th at the Salon de la Photo photography expo in Paris. No word on whether any other Nikon products will be unveiled, although Nikon Rumors suggests the new Nikon WR-T10 is a possible new product.

What do you think about Nikon’s newest DX-format DSLR? Will you rush out to buy one just in time for the holidays?
