Buying a used Nikon D800 from ebay seller

I found a good deal on a D800 from an ebay seller who has no feedback, but has been pretty good about communication. Does anyone have any experience with eBays buyer protection? How bullet proof is this for the buyers?

I bought a used Nikon D300 off of eBay awhile back. Had a focusing problem with it, seller took it back & exchanged it for another D300 with even fewer shutter clicks (under 4k)...Never had a problem eBay didn't settle to my liking...

Personally I left Fleabay long ago because of scams. Mostly on the buyer side when I was selling. If you are paying with Paypal then you do have protection. I use Amazon myself over Ebay, the main reason is I will not help them profit from their bad practices. For me it is the principle of the thing.

(I've used eBay for years, and only one minor problem which got me a 15% rebate on my purchase. But I don't do a large amount of trading.)

I wouldn't, not for the kind of money a used D800 should go for. The seller, if legit, should understand that they need a reputation first, before trying to sell something that significant. Folks with zero feedback selling high-ticket items often have used and closed (or had closed for them) other accounts. It doesn't mean that they are inexperienced. Cynical, yes, I know.

If there's one seller of a used D800, there'll be others, and via safer methods. Patience, perhaps, is in order?

:goodpost: Don't jump on the first one you find. Wait and see where the price goes to get an idea of what they should go for.

What's a good deal? Does it sound too good to be true? You have given no details, so based on that little info, I don't care if the dude calls you on the phone or drops you a wire, for me....no history, no consideration. Don't walk away....RUN!

Why so serious?

Personally, I dont like buying something used sight unseen, especially when your talking about that amount of coin. I perfer dealing local on craigslist just so I can inspect the product.
