$1500 to spend on lens for Nikon D7000?

As I'm getting ready to purchase my D7000 body only I'm wondering what lens should I get to get me started? This is my first DSLR camera and I'm still trying to figure out things and would appreciate some help. I've noticed there are so many different lenses I can get. Should I go with something like a 18-200mm and have a little cash left over and perhaps get a 50mm f/1.4?

If you had $1500 left to buy a lens would you buy the best and be at the top of your budget or would you try to get something less expensive and be able to get a couple lenses out of the same budget?

Always buy the best lens that you can afford.
BTW, good luck in buying the Nikon D7000 anytime soon. It's out of stock from Nikon and I know alot of people who are on the waiting list to get one.

+1 Good point, get the best you can afford. Might I suggest buying used lenses? You can save some money and still might be able to get a couple really nice lenses. There are some good sellers on ebay and I've bought from KEH before.

Well I did some searches and I found a used 70-200mm, but it kills my entire lens budget that I have right now. The seller would take $1500 for it, but then I don't have under 70mm range?
