Nikon 24mm f1.4G thread

6 years 2 months ago #571424 by Jason Stevens
So, I'm after a prime to use for landscapes.  I've read the Nikon 24mm f1.4G is one the best lenses made by Nikon and loved by landscape photographers.

Would you like to comment on that and help me get over the fence here?

Its a fast and pricey lens and gets great reviews. I think for night photography it would be especially good....I'd like one.

I don't know why, but I find Fro annoying...

Not a single comment about the CA in that color shot of the guitar neck? Really?

Why does he spend so much time discussing differences in the backgrounds at different apertures? More than 10 minutes in to compare the 3 lenses and make his point?

And someone should explain to him that "blown out" usually refers to highlights, not bokeh. Geez.

This lens can be easily had for appr. $1200, used. Half list price. That tells me a lot about its value.

Me too on the first point.... I decided on the Nikon 20mm f/1.8 for just under eight hundred bucks and glad I did. A little wider and not too much slower....

Yes & Yes.
Fro irritates the #*@! out of me and
I bought a used  24/1.4 for $NZ1700 (about $US1200). immaculate and as-new.
I love it.

Quite right Gary… it is hard to follow when terms are
improperly used.
