Deity D3 vs Rode Video Mic for Nikon Z6?

4 years 6 months ago #661124 by Timothy Voogt
My second post here.  I'm new.  I bought a Nikon Z6 a few months ago and just hooked.  I want to do video with it, but the video's I have recorded, the audio sounds all twangy.  I was told to get an off camera mic.  I have read articles on both of the above mics.  But not one that compared them.  Actually I did watch a video and the guy recommended the Deity.

If you were going to buy a mic, which would you pick up?

The Deity would be my guess, based on Amazon reviews. Maybe spend a few minutes reading some, I couldn't see any comparisons either.....

Why so serious?

Yeah, I did, but I heard reviews on Amazon could be gamed.  So to take them with a grain of salt.  Which are you using?

The folks with Aputure just sent me a Deity D3 Pro to review, so during next couple weeks I'll be able to give my thoughts on it.  I will say that first impressions are strong.

Regarding the Rode Video Mic, I've had this mic for nearly a year and frankly this mic is awesome.  The sound is perfect.

I'll let you know what I think about the D3... stay tuned!

I'm sure you'll be happy with either, although neither will magically make your audio better. Recording good audio is a skill you need to learn, just like recording good video is.

You have to look at when the reviews were posted, and what the negative ones say.  For example, I was looking at inexpensive dash cams the other day, and a few promising ones had wonderful reviews. All written in the last 2-3 weeks, and hardly anything negative.  Those would be bogus.

Yup, be sure to read the reviews. Often a one star pan is because of a shipping error or the like, which is NOT a product rating. I also read a few five stars too, and disregard, "coming tuesday, looks good!", etc.....

If you get the Deity, you want to make sure you get the Pro version.  You have more controls, with the big one being over the gains.
