Nikon Z6 or Z7 or would you wait for Nikon Z8 or Z9

I'm currently shooting with a Nikon D800, which has been a great camera for me.  I want to go smaller and would like to stick with Nikon.  I've heard rumors that the Z8 or Z9 could be coming during the first quarter of 2020.

I shoot landscapes, so of course the Z7 would be right now today, the better choice.  However there are some good prices on the Z6 too.  Kind of tempted.  But would you wait till the Z8 or Z9 comes out or just jump on the Z7?

I don't care much about going smaller though I can understand
your need.

The 60+MP sounds like music to my ear… so I'll rather wait for a
D850 upgrade.

If the D7 had what I wanted now and I wanted to go mirrorless now, I'd buy one now. Look for a deal.

Why so serious?

If the Z7 had included required features (two card slots) I would have bought that back in May. But, alas, it did not, and I went to the D850.

I'd wait for the Z8/whatever, myself, if I were shopping today. And it would have to include the F mount adapter at no charge.

At this point, perhaps in 3-4 years. Love the D850.

N.B. the body may be smaller, but it's the lenses that are heavy. That's not going to change with a new body. IMNSHO there really isn't a significant size difference going to full frame mirrorless.

Good advice folks.  I think I'm going to hold off a couple months and see if the rumors are correct with the upcoming Z8.

Gary how long have you been shooting with the D850?

Speaking of the Z8 or Z9, do you think we'll see a front facing screen?

IMNSHO no.

Currently, only the D5x00 series has a fully articulated screen (Canon has similar constraints) and no pro body affords that function. I an skeptical that it will ever happen on a high-end Z model.

I implied, but didn't state, May. Apologies for my lack of clarity.

Very happy with the camera.

Yup, that was a deal breaker.

I don't think of going mirrorless but a single card?
The only thing that could get me to go for it is a full
trouble free guaranty card accompanied with a 10k€
compensation in such case… won't happened.

Wait for the Z8.  Considering the resent Z6 and Z7 firmware update, I bet we'll see some awesomeness from Nikon with the new Z8 and Z9.

I'd also like to point out that the Z6 and Z7 lack a grip (they have battery pack,  but not grip since those cameras lack the electrical connections for it).   With the lack of a drip and second card slot, those cameras are a hard pass for me.   Hopefully they'll fix that in the future mirror cameras.

Do you think they will release Z8 or Z9 considering the Z6 and Z7 are barely a year old?

Good point, we may expect too much.
