An impressive collection of features (except the shutter life!!!)
but I was moulded 40 years ago into the reflex system.

Yup, the worst part is new glass. I'm not confident in the adapter system yet.

A new student let me try his Z7 on my long lenses and
the adaptor inspired no objections from my part… but
that body with no vertical grip!

I don't like footless lenses with the mirrorless either. Imagine the newer 300 f/4  and adapter hanging on the front of a Z7? Or a 24-70 f/2.8? A 14-24 f/2.8?

So, there are reasons not to get a mirrorless.

Worth a video, Alex?

It would be a very short video.

Correct, there are more reasons to desire mirrorless. I love my DSLRs, but smaller, lighter, quieter, etc are big positives, to me.

At 23 — for the third time :P — I am happy to report
that size weight and noise are still not relevant.

To you maybe. I wouldn't trade your gear for mirrorless right now either, but that gear will age, just like you. Its real good you're happy.
