Any love here for the Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8D ED?

Current production lens. Nikon lists it at just a sniff over $1200. It can be found refurbed or slightly used at between $800-900.

Seems like a heck of a bargain, pro type glass that gets great reviews. Nikon's other offering in the same range, the 70-200mm VR is for sure a great lens but is about a thousand bucks more.

I'm getting the 80-200mm for nighttime HS football and marching band pics while using a monopod. I have a D90 and the lens will autofocus. The lenses I currently have just don't cut it.

Can't wait!

WoW thats my favorite lens for shooting pro hockey and yes it does work well shooting HS football on a monopod. I also use an SB 800 for extra illumination depending on the lighting at the stadiums and how close I can get to the action. Definitely works well on D90 bodies as I use two of them all of the time. Also use a 300mm f 4 at the same games to get even closer shots of the action. you can check out my albums here on PT to see the results. I am sure you will be pleased with your results too
