Is nikon D300 and nikon d3000 similar?

The D3000 is an entry level camera & the D300 is a "prosumer" or step up from the base entry models...Here's a link to a side by side comparison of the D3000 & the D300s (which replaced the D300)

And the price differences reflect that. The beginner camera (D3000) has Preset Modes so all you have to do is point and shoot, the Prosumer models have some Autos such as White Balance but has no Presets to speak of for those of us who like to do all of our own settings.

The D300 is kinda like taking the next step towards a full sensor camera, which is regarded as a pro camera, I am a pro and I use the D300 which produces brilliant images, but I do feel the need to move up to the D700.
