Would you pay $2300 for this 400mm lens?

I found a Nikon AF-S Nikkor 400mm f/2.8D IF-ED

Product identifiers brand Nikon Model AF-S Nikkor 400mm f/2.8D IF-ED MPN 1949NASI

They are asking $2300 and it's listed as good condition with minor wear on hood bolts.

What do you think?

Correct, the one you're looking at doesn't have VR. It's an older version, made from 1994-1998. If there's nothing wrong with this lens however, consider it a SUPER buy! Even though this lens is older and a lot bigger than the current VR version, it's very sought after and great optically. They usually go for around 3800 to $4500 used on ebay and online sites. At 2300 bucks, I'd be asking if there's more to it than just minor wear on hood bolts.....

This deal has a lot going for it. Almost too good to be true. So who do I make the money order out to, lol, just kidding ....Buy it shoot with it, if you hate it you could probably make a 30-50% profit in a few weeks! Valued at 5000or so @ KEH.

It is a great deal depending on if it is an online purchase or a local purchase. If it is online then it sound too good to be true, if you can try it first locally then it is a great deal. At 200mms you dont need VR with proper holding technique or support. I would buy it if I could get a deal like it locally. As was said if you dont like it sell it for a profit.

Just watch out, I have come across a few deals like that on Craigslist, they don't have a phone number listed, so I email them. A day later I get a email saying the guy is out of country in the UK working and the lens would have to be shipped. I got the same message on a different lens, this time with a different guys name. Scam. :angry:
