How does the Nikon SB 700 compare to the Nikon SB 600 flash?

You can find these SB 600's all over the place for pretty fair price, but then there is temptation to pick up the new SB 700. Decisions, decisions! Why didn't Nikon come out with a larger flash... meaning there is a SB800 and SB900, so why SB700?

Love the performance and size of the SB 700 unit. output is good and works well in remote mode off camera

This shot was taken with a 700 to the right of camera and a 800 to the left with an umbrella for fill

Were you using Pocket Wizard or Radio Popper? Or shooting manual mode?

Both the 700 and 800 trigger remotely off camera with the camera in commander mode so no need for either of those anymore. Camera body was a D90

Hey Rob. Do you get the same amount of exposure with the off camera flash triggered by commander mode? I find my SB-600 underexposes by 1.5 stops off camera versus when it's mounted on camera. I just wondered if anyone else experiences that.

No I don't get under exposure probably because I'm using two or three flash units for my portraiture so I get even lighting. I usually run test shots prior so that helps with the settings though sometimes i get shadow from overpowering one flash or the other

I bought an SB-600 when I bought my D7000. I don't know that I have a commander mode, but I shall be looking into it tonight. I haven't used it that much yet as it is fairly new, but I will get out and start working with it soon. NYIP Unit three is on lighting, so I am sure they are going to want photos of flash pics. Thanks for the thread.

I have an SB600 and a SB900 and the difference is immense, my 600 is my spare flash or fill in flash, I would highly recommend the SB900 its pure quality.
