Canon lens on my Nikon D300?

13 years 7 months ago #955 by KZAM
I have a good opportunity to pick up a nice telephoto Canon lens for a VERY good price. I was wondering can I use this Canon lens on either of my Nikons (D80 and D300)?

Thanks for the input.

Isn't the Canon mount bigger than the Nikon mount? Which means you might be able with a adaptor put a Nikon lens on a Canon, but not the other way around.

I wasn't aware of any size difference, I have not seen the lens yet. Just saw the ad.

From what I understand the camera registry of the Nikon camera needs a longer back focal length than the Canon lens can bring to the table.

Thank you for the feed back, I think I would play this one safe and pass on it.

Now that I'm thinking about it, the electronic connections of the Canon lens wouldn't work with the camera body of the Nikon would it?

I'd just stick with OEM lens, even if you could use a Canon lens on Nikon, when you factor in adapters, additional processes taken to take a photo (set up), better off just getting a Nikon lens, or lens made for that camera.

You can bet they built these cameras so that the lens mounts, communications and software aren't interchangeable from one camera to another. That way you're stuck buying a particular product line.

Ok... That makes sense, I'll stick with the oem or aftermarket lens like Sigma

Yeah, that's a good idea there.
