Panasonic G95 vs GH5 - first time Panasonic owner

3 years 9 months ago #656324 by ArtWagner
Currently right now my video is coming from a borrowed Sony A7s a friend has been letting me use.   I've heard a lot of good things about Panasonic GH5 video.  So just a quick question, I was reading this article  https://www.photographytalk.com/panasonic-g95-review  about the G95, and this looks like a newer camera from Panasonic that seems to get favorable reviews.

Always the toughest part of buying a camera is that final decision.

Would you personally consider the G95 over the GH5 if you are buying the camera for video work?

G'day Art

The difficulty is that we have too much choice !!!

For the Panny "G" series mirrorless bodies, all I can suggest is for you to make a list of features and give each your "1" or "2" or "3" rating as to its importance and create your own score

For myself - I went for the FZ-2500 as it supplies all my needs

Hope this helps

Those models are very similar, although it appears that the GH5 will use the entire sensor for 4K video. While IBIS is nice, are you going to hand-hold everything? You might consider getting a gimbal rather than worrying about stabilization (which is really for still photography).

Having used a GH7 for a while now, either of those will suffice. Your biggest expense will be glass. I'd probably go with the 95 and a gimbal if I were shopping and that fit my budget.

It seems to have plenty of features that would make it a decent video camera. It has an articulating screen, microphone and headphone jacks, v-log pre-installed, zebra peaking, and so on. I don't like the fact that it has a crop when recording 4K, but it's probably to be expected at the price point.

It seems like a decent camera, but no it's not as good as the GH5 at video. The GH5 records 4K at 60p, with no crop, and 10-bit colour. But perhaps more important than that, is whether you can find anything as good as the G95 for the same price. The Sony A6400 would perhaps be the main competition and you'll find it's stronger in some areas (autofocus, price, larger sensor) and weaker in others (LCD screen, stabilization, lack of headphone jack). Another one to consider would be the Fujifilm XT-30.

It's definitely a decent video camera, but comparing it to a 50% more expensive, best-in-class camera, it's never going to win out.
