Save Focus Setting on GH4

3 years 2 months ago #679611 by ggk1
Hey guys, my camera stays stationary and I always have the subject stand in the same place, but I have to re-focus the GH4 each time I turn it on. Is there a setting I can change to where the camera doesn't wipe my focus setting each time it turns off? TIA!

I'm going to go with "no". Why wouldn't you want it to focus for each shot anyways? Your victim might stand in a specified location, but you still need to set focus (on their eye(s)?)

G'day ggk

I note that this is your first post here - so Welcome to the forum :)

Your camera - in fact ALL digital cameras offers all of AF-continuous + AF-single + MF Manual focus. If you do not want the camera to refocus for each shot, then go to MF mode

This might be okay if you are shooting the same item dozens of times where both you and the subject NEVER move, however that is usually an unlikely prospect. If your subject is alive (ie: not a vase of flowers) then both you AND the subject move ever so slightly each time you breathe, never mind moving to scratch an itch!

The real reason is that I'm using the GH4 for video streaming, and have it set with a deep field. I always end up moving the focus "bar" pretty much to the exact same spot, it would just be nice to have it turn on with that setting in place

Not sure why video streaming is relevant to the issue. And while manual focus mode might be a solution, the fact is that lens can easily get twisted.

I do video as well as still, and never trust the camera. I set focus every time. I think it's to your benefit, but what do I know? I could be wrong.
