Hey,

Here are some shots that I taken with my new 50mm AFS F/1.8G Nikon on a D3100. Took my daughter out to test what kind of shots I could get with this. Be as harsh as you like in the critique.

(personal opinion)
1) Good shoot i would try and have her center her eye so there is an equal amount of white on each side
2) same as #1(eyes) but i would crop a lil more on the left and add some to the right. i do like the orientation on this better than #1
3) the eyes are a little dark maybe trow a reflector on that side of the face to even it out a little bit
4) i would crop up a little(to the circle) or down(to the bottom) a little on the telescope
5) i would bring her chin a lil more tward where she is looking and crop some in from the left and add a little more to the right.

While I'm in agreement with the first two posters about the composition, I think that the IQ is great for a new lens design and do look forward to getting the new G lens soon. I think that the out of focus areas, at least on these shots, look pretty stellar and I look forward to seeing you produce more shots with your new nifty-fifty.

It is what it is.

I like the shots. I like the lens as well. They're called nifty 50 for a reason.

The Nikkor 50mm 1.8 is my FAVORITE... I use 8 times out of 10 to work with. It is a great lens for DOF and perfect for portrait. Have fun with it

Some of the comments are valid, I agree with the telescope one, and the slightly too dark one of your daughter, and the coming down a touch at least to eye level, but on the whites of the eyes being equal each side, utter tosh, just look at lots of professional model shots to see the same look as you have achieved, you have a very pretty daughter whom you have captured perfectly in my opinion, the slightly off centre one needs no cropping at all, in fact go out do the same shots but kneel down to the same level and use a reflector and there you have it, the bokeh in the daughter shots is absolutely magnificent, the quality of the lens is superb and I must get myself one.
