I just discovered my 2nd curtain flash

I wasn't going for this but I was pleasantly surprized by the lesson. The shutter was set for about a second and a half (in aperture mode). I learned that for the initial second, and almost a half, the camera didn't need to be on the subject, which in this case was my 5 year old who can't stay still for even a second, as evident in the pic. The ghost is what I started with, but the flash hit when he was sticking his head in the cave. I can use this artistically... I'm going to mess with this more. Thanks for looking

If that was your first use of it, you did very well. It's not a technique that everyone needs (or uses), but you used it here appropriately.

Again, nice flash work.

:)

P.S. I'm so glad to hear you're going to use it again and work with it. Instead of, "How can I fix this in Photoshop"?

Thank you for that, and thanks for the other replies. I must admit it was an accident. But as soon as I saw the playback I knew what had happened from reading about it before. Unfortunately, I can't really see it as a technique yet, as I don't fully grasp the artistic or practical potential. I see it as it as something to play with and exploit if I need to, like when I don't have a tripod and Av wants a 3 second exposure in a dark place. :)
I'll get it eventually though!

Oh... and sorry, I don't have drapes... just blinds! :)
