New Here... Jumping right in

I figured I might as well jump right in.

Here are a couple of my photos for your comments, critiques, feedback etc.

#1

#2

#3

#4

After almost a year of frustration because I couldn't get my camera to do what I wanted, I was told to learn my camera and stop using the Auto setting. I am now shotting in Manual 95% of the time, and have been slowly moving forward with my photography. I welcome all feedback.

Shooting manual definitely gives you a lot more options and opportunities to capture photos the way you really want them. These are nice, but in #3 you might try reflecting some light on the shadow side. Also looks like maybe the light was really harsh for your subject -- not that the exposure looks blown out or anything, but it looks like his eyes were battling against some sunlight and it was hard to keep them open wide.

All in all, great DoF and nice work!

Well you just showed us that YOU are the photographer and not the camera! Bravo! I love them all end I do agree with Meyer about #3... Look like he is fighting the sun... Other than that your shots are very creatives and very SHARPS!!! Good work!!

Very well done! The only nit I have is I find the hair over the girl's eye in the first shot distracting.

#3 does have alot going against it. It was shot at 4:30 in the afternoon in the harsh Texas sun plus the subject is a typical 15 year old boy who hates getting his picture taken and for some reason thinks squinting is "cool" and gives him a dangerous look.

I don't have the heart to tell him that his "dangerous" look isn't all that dangerous and if squinting is "cool" than I when I take my contacts out I must be the coolest thing around.

LOL! Well in that case I'd definitely try to hit the shadowy side with a reflector and give him a reason to squint for real... ;)

Th efirst one is captivating. The reflection on her eye is almost trance inducing. Wonderful job.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.
