First Photoshoot

Ok so today, a friend of mine who is a portrait photographer agreed to giving me a few pointers and showing me how she does her thing and letting me shadow a bit. Not much instruction other than how she normally sets up her camera and giving me pointers on how to decide whats comfortable.

So today I shot her and my girlfriend to get a feel for it and I gotta say I am pretty pleased with the results. Please critique for me! I want to know what you think!

This is my girlfriend who was so kind as to model for us today

Crop and a little color correction here and there in post but nothing major at all.

This is my friend who was brave enough to get in front of the camera for me to shoot! I love her so much and she has been a big help in forming a stable platform to build my skills!

You are on the right track. Very good. Picture # 1 Great :judge: Picture 2 does not look like a natural pose to me, #3 very nice :judge:

You will not be judged as a photographer by the pictures you take, but by the pictures you show.

First off, you are one lucky dude. The girlfriend is a hottie. The lighting looks pretty good, but you need to look for better backgrounds. The background in the second image is too distracting. Look for good clean simple backgrounds. That comes with practice and getting comfortable with the technical side of photography. It frees your mind to see other things, like backgrounds. Keep practicing, you're off to a good start.

Thanks guys! Not making excuses but all of these were pretty early in the shoot so I was still trying to figure the camera and posing her out.

I think Facebook did a bad job of compressing this one because it looks kind of noisy but let me know about composition if nothing else:

Nice background but the image is a little too dark for me. The pose is fine but I wouldn't crop through the middle of the hands this way. I like that you are getting close to the subject, since most people don't but keep an eye on the edges.

They look good!!! but i do agree the last is a bit dark but post processing might bring it out a bit and the second pose is off for me too. Keep Shooting!!

Couple more photos from this shoot.

This is a different shot but the same composition without a 5x7 crop. I think it still might be a little dark but I like it alot better this way and I think you will too
