This is my youngest, the gymnast.

2 LP160s on each side in 24" softboxes and SB600 with purple gel for the background.

Very sharp. Technically very good.

I would not have used a purple background with a purple outfit. Contrast is good for separation.

The left arm and right knee coming directly toward the camera cause foreshortening, making them look awkward. Here, you could get away with the leg, I think, if the arm were out to the side rather than forward. Or choose a camera position that is not right in front (90 degrees from the beam). Everything seems quite square and rigid.

A portrait on the beam is a great idea, but I'd try for a dynamic pose, and worry less about her looking at the camera.

But that's just me.

Thanks guys!

Gary I see what you mean about the pose.  For the background we were quite limited at the time.  We either had black or purple.  Both colors in the leotard.  I figured the different shades of purple worked better than black. :)

I would suggest trying the black and using backlighting. Two lights 180 degrees from each other. Front right and back left, for example. You'll get separation from the background with more dramatic results in the shadows. IMO.

:agree: Gary gave some good advice here.  It's a nice shot, with just minor changes.
