Wondered if any of you guys had any comments about this from a recent baby shoot.

its a gorgeous portrait but I have said it before and I will say it again, I hate watermarks over faces, we dont get a true look at the photo.

Excellent portrait, Jim... :judge: But I agree with David on the watermark placement..

Thanks guys - I completely agree with you about the watermark however the reason is they are on a secure web gallery for the parents to choose prints and it's simply to avoid having them stolen!

I know what you mean but it could be placed off the face and still stop someone stealing it.

You would be amazed what some people will do to steal an image (then again probably not!)

You are right I am never surprised at peoples efforts to steal photos, but I always think of it as a form of flattery, its more important for me to have a client who can see all the little details in a photo, guess its a personal thing.

I know where you're coming from Dave but do you rely on photo sales for a living?!

lovely shot and can fully understand the watermark, personally think the white vignetting ruins what looks like a stunning shot though :(

I agreee Ryan but I showed the Mum three options. Colour, mono and the one I posted which is what she chose after having seen something similar of a friend's child. Customer's always right!

Well I make the majority of my money from my set packages, then extra sales are a bonus, then bespoke packages are a godsend.

yeh i don't like the vignetting. Looks fake... as you said though, if the customer wants it. LOL

I think (can't tell past the watermark) the eyes seem to be lacking crispness. Their seems to have some motion blur too.

Perhaps you needed some off camera flash or something to boost the light (and subsequently the shutter speed). Weird since it seems you were using a... I'll say 50mm at 1.8 (ha! I bet I'm right, I just checked your profile and it says you own one... ). Should be pretty fast...

...maybe you moved a bit? Ahh I also see you own the 5DmarkII.... yeh, not the best focusing camera in the world (I use to own one). Kid moved too fast for it's focusing speed I guess.

Now onto the processing. Contrast on this is a bit too low IMHO. It's a black and white, contrast is your friend. :)

Personally I like skin tones in black and white to be more on the white side than the gray side, but that's personal perhaps.

Now, positive.

The smile is really cute and those little teeth are great.
