What do you think? "Canon launches EOS 1D X, possible Nikon D3 killer"

12 years 6 months ago #156703 by Camera Diva
"Canon has just shook up the photographic world big-time with the announcement of its EOS 1D X professional dSLR, a camera that aims to replace both the 1D Mark IV and the 1Ds Mark III with going head-to-head with Nikon's D3 and D3x models. So, how can Canon do this in one single stroke? Simple: how about jamming a 18Mp, FF sensor that can shoot 14fps into the proven 1D body, redesigning the AF system, and then throwing in three processors for good measure?

Hear that rattling? That's probably the knees of Nikon's top brass."

Big news for Canon, but not shipping till March of 2012? Seems far off. :(

Perhaps so, but Nikon most likely has something coming out that will pass up the D3 any way. So this will put Canon back in check.

Love the new Canon, but this is worth more than my car  just joking, it's just expensive for my camera budget

Disappointed because they merged lines.

The 14 fps is only in mirror lockup. Clean 12,800 ISO's, i'm already getting those.

Honestly, it's not that much better than the 1d mark 4.

Happy for the folks shooting canon with a fast full frame camera.

At $6800 it's in a weird marketing place.

What's the purpose of locking the mirror up? I've heard this in discussion before but I thought that was only to clean the camera?

Less vibration. Art wolfe uses it a lot when doing landscapes.

Useful in macro as well.

Comparing a brand new Canon to 3 year old technology in the Nikon D3, I would hope it's a Nikon D3 killer. But then Nikon will come out with their new toy and the round in round we go

As it might already been said, (I didn't read through the posts), but it's nothing really knew. Canon releases a new camera to kill Nikon. Then Nikon releases a new camera to kill off Canon's recent release. It's a back and forth battle with all companies and us..the society...love it. :woohoo:

Great news, Canon will have a new toy to show at the Focus on Imaging trade fair next Feb. I look forward to having a look and purchasing one or two:drool: .

I note the OP titled this "Nikon D3 killer".

Nikon do have the D3s and D3x now...

If anything this is a "D3s killer"... just in time for Nikon to release the D4.

Happy for the Canon folks, finally getting a D3s style camera. My friend (a Canon shooter) ordered a 1Dx the day it was announced (Called Canon directly, he's a Canon Professional whatever it is).

Why bother announcing this if not available till March?
