A definite pattern, whilst there is a very serious side to PT. there is also a crazy side and we love it

Choose your vendor carefuly, check that Nikon and the vendor will honor the warranty and go for it. My D40 was a demo and I'm very happy with it. A couple of my lenses were demo and they have worked fine for several years.

If the factory and the vendor will stand behind the warranty, you haven't much to lose but a little time. Check out the Adorama used section. They have refurbs and demos on there all the time and they stand behind their sales. B&H is another good source to check, as well as KEH.

So, I'm saying YES, with caution.

Refurbs are a lot different to Demos. Demo cameras in a store are bound to have problems. Refurbs are probably OK because they'd have fixed the problems.

So, NO x 1000 (with one yes in the middle... that keeps moving around for some reason). ;)

:agree: ONLY if I knew 100% of it's history. Like the unit spent it's life as a paper weight in sales counter.

Doesn't look like there's much more to be said. Used books, yes. Even bought a car once that the salesman had been driving for a couple thousand miles. No problem. But used high-end electronics. Never in a thousand years. Save until afford a new one - or take the money you have now and buy a lesser model (which you'll grow tired of because it wasn't what you wanted.)

So long as the place you bought it from guarantees you can return it for a full refund, I would try it. Nothing like testing it out yourself. If you can't return it for a full refund, forget about it.

I'm a newbie to photography and personally I wouldn't go buying a demo camera. Now that you have me thinking, I wouldn't be buying anything that was a demo.

Demo cameras might as well have been inside of a trash compactor they've been abused so much.
