Trashing a wedding dress

11 years 10 months ago #234767 by Sandy Smith Photos
I have a client who wants to trash a wedding dress. I've heard of this before but never photographed one. My client is asking for a place to buy a cheap wedding dress and also is asking me for idea's of where and how we are going to do this.

I'm searching for answers here.

Have you photographed a wedding dress getting trashed? Please share details of the shoot.

Thanks!

On TV and the internet "trash the dress" is rolling in the surf, spelunking, diving into a mudhole, etc.... I've done several after wedding bridal shoots that the brides referred to as "trash the dress", but we didn't get so extreme as the examples above. We just did things that would probably be fine in normal clothes, just not normally done if you were trying to protect a white, frilly, expensive wedding dress. You don't have to get too far off the sidewalk to start trashing the dress. :)

I've never had a bride ask to photograph trashing of a dress. I've never understood the purpose of this

I've always wondered this myself

There are always some folks who like to be different. They want atypical bridal portraits. The world offers a lot more possibilities if I don't have to worry about keeping the dress clean and pristine. With most dresses I can't do many of the poses I would do for a typical portrait session. Even sitting down outside can be a hazard for a wedding dress.

The "trash the dress" that the media gives attention to is pro models rolling in mud or surf. In the real world it's more climbing trees in the dress, wandering down a dirt path, riding a horse, etc...
