Ninja, just compared the Vignette, sharpness, and CA characteristics between the two at slrgear.com. Comparing results between 50mm lenses is usually just splitting hairs, but the results between these were surprising...
The Sigma is a tad sharper in the center at all aperatures, and 1 full unit (blur unit) sharper in the center at f1.4
However, the Nikon is a clear winner in the vignetting and edge to edge sharpness department.

Sigma's 50 probably produces warmer colors than Nikon's. Sigmas usually do.

Thanks for that. Yeah the Sigma is a nice lens (as I'm sure the Nikon is too).
I have the Sigma and the vignetting doesn't bother me (I can correct it anyway). Corner to corner sharpness perhaps would bother me in some cases, but from what I've seen on my Sigma 50 1.4 the edge sharpness isn't a problem.
It's the bokeh I'm concerned about with a fast lens like this and sharpness wide open. Seeing as you said the Sigma is sharper at f/1.4 I'm happy I got it.
The Bokeh on the Sigma is very nice too BTW. I don't have a good example online at the moment, but from tests I've seen it's slightly nicer than the Nikon. But YMMV.
