Having a bad weather clause in your contract

11 years 7 months ago #252342 by Travel Nut
I near forgot to ask the question I came here for today! I've had some close calls with some jobs of mine due to crummy weather. I'm thinking I need to add a clause in my contract for bad weather. Do any of you have anything already drafted up that I can see?

I just want to make sure I'm covered. Thanks guys and gals.

It happens and when it does I'll just give my client a heads up call regarding the weather and let them make the call. However if the weather is really bad I do have a clause in my contact that does give me the option to cancel or if possible reschedule at my discretion.

Canon 5D Mark II, 30D, 40D, 50 1.2L, 16-35 2.8L Mark II, 24-105 4L IS, 24-70 2.8L, 70-200 2.8L IS, 85 1.8, 4 x 580 EX(II)

My contract says that I will not work in situations that are dangerous to me or potentially damaging to my equipment. Alternate plans in case of bad weather are the Client's responsibility, although I can offer recommendations. For portrait sessions I usually reschedule. For weddings we work with whatever indoor locations are available to us. For any shoot where there is the potential for weather problems I discuss it way ahead of time.

Mostly weddings, some private and commercial portraits, a few architectural and advertising jobs each year.

Fortunately most clients won't want to shoot in bad weather either. Although I did have one guy who was mad at me for wanting to reschedule a family portrait session. It was just before noon, and the sky was black, the wind was howling, and lighting flashing. It looked like a hurricane was about to roll through.

With proper preparation I would be willing to shoot in rain, snow, etc... If it was right for the intent of the shoot.
