Does your wife or husband support your interest in photography?

My wife just put the first snag in my spending path. I had opportunity to buy 300mm f/2.8 for $2,800!! This is amazing deal and my wife for the first time said we need to spend this on something more practical. "More practical"?

Ahhhh... what a deal, what a deal.

Does your wife or husband support your photography spending habits 100% of the time? How do you overcome those "No's"?

Nikon D300 24-70mm f2.8
70-200mm f2.8
50mm f1.4 & 50mm f1.8
105mm f2.8
2 SB800

Never been married, but had several live in g/fs that would object to my gear buying, and sometimes my wanting to go out shooting. Which for the most part is why I never got married. I did date a woman who was also a photographer, but that ended tragically. She shot with Olympus, I shot Nikon. Every trip to the camera store turned ugly. She also thought that my Pentax MX was old junk compared to the electronic whizbang Oly she had, and was constantly pestering me about getting rid of mine, and switching to hers. So at times dating a shooter is not all you would think it would be, especially if you shoot different systems, and are die hard fans of them.

Yeah, this question isn't about photography equipment, this question is about finances. If you're not on the same page overall, then suggest you get there.

Me, I would never spend that kind of money without buy-in, as well as assurance that it fits in the budget. And FWIW I'm going to have this issue real soon now on a 70-200 f/2.8.

My wife supports my photography, and she THINKS she's ok with what I spend. The truth be known, she has no idea of the bottom line, and that could be a key ingredient to a happy, thirty year marriage...... :)

Why so serious?

Yes, but I need to run the super pricey buys across her way, just to keep good communication.

He does, if he didn't he wouldn't be in the basement building my studio. I run most of my expensive purchases through him anyway. Whether it's photo equipment or a purse, he gets a say. I recently spent $$$$$ and he took a double take but was ok with it. He just kept putting the studs up in the studio.

I guess I'm lucky because my wife completely supports me.

Money wise she does not mind . Although I haven't started buying expensive toys so far :cheer: Time wise she minds a lot. Cause most of the time I combine holidays with shooting and thus taking time from her holidays.

I guess I must start to travel alone

For me photography does not have Do's and DON'Ts . What we see is what we can photograph. The eye does not have rules, angles. There are guidelines...yes but no borders.

My wife loves photography and really supports what I find interest in. Actually we have a mutually respecting terms regarding our hobbies. She has some pricey spending habits that she will spend much more than my camera gear {cough} purses, {cough} shoes! Now that you have me thinking, if I had spent the same that she has spent on purses and shoes, I would be shooting with a Hasselblad H5D-60

I'll be happy with that H5D-60 myself. I'm thinking my wife would kick my butt if I bought this!
