Granted this article is from nearly a year a go, it's still good reading for those photographers thinking about using Facebook for their marketing efforts  socialmediatoday.com/jgibbard/1506781/fa...keting-waste-of-time

Without reading, I think it depends what your market is. If you do weddings, portraits, families, then Facebook is working. (in SA anyway.) Specially if you can post some exceptional shots.

If used well with a good strategy then I think there is value in facebook Marketing. There is certainly a great advertising platform in Facebook allowing very narrow targeted ads.

Maximize all of your channels. Facebook can be great for building relationships, yet a challenge to turn into a transaction. You have to be committed to maintaining your page. Have not been very successful with their banner ads.

+ 1

For a long time I assumed that FB Pages came with a fee.  Not so, you can start out free.  It's only when you buy FB adverts for your Page that you are out any $$.  So as long as you don't advertise on FB . . .

Yes, absolutely. It is a great way to engage with current customers. Plus they can leave reviews which adds to your reputation. Ideally those who like your page will start sharing your posts on their FB page.
