Number of photos in your show and tell portfolio?

I have done some searches and it would seem there isn't an exact answer.  So let me just ask here, how many photos do you have in your portfolio that you show to potential prospects?

Correct. There is no fixed answer, other than "it depends."

Perhaps instead of concerning yourself with a number, you would be better served by researching what goes into a good portfolio and work from there. A number for one portfolio might not be the number for another.

I will say, less is more, and it has to be your best work. Says the man that desperately needs to update his portfolio. *sigh*

Never thought about it until I read this post, I have two portfolios on my ipad, one for weddings one for family, around twenty/thirty in the wedding one and maybe fifteen/twenty in the family one, don't suppose it matters, although I would imagine that if you had hundreds then a prospective client may get bored and therefore put off, all you really need is the best of your best in there, something that will blow their socks off within the first ten images.

I just counted and I have 24 in mine.  I try to keep it below 20, just for a more manageable number of photos.  No rule to this, just something that I do.

Canon 5D Mark II, 30D, 40D, 50 1.2L, 16-35 2.8L Mark II, 24-105 4L IS, 24-70 2.8L, 70-200 2.8L IS, 85 1.8, 4 x 580 EX(II)
