Your method to asking someone to getting out of your shot?

When your on a paid gig and someone who is a guest is in your way of a shot you need to get.  How are you asking them to "move it"?

If you aren't getting paid and it's just casual shooting will you bother to ask someone to step out of your shot, or will you just wait for them to move?

I think photography can be a certain amount of interacting with people. If you're the person hired to take photos I think it takes directing in a respectful and cordial yet firm way, saying please and thank you but being in charge - direct them to step back, stand over 'there' please, tell them they'll need to wait ___ min. or whatever, show/tell them where to stand while waiting.

Being out and about shooting it depends, sometimes people notice I'm taking a picture and wait a minute, I might ask can I get in here and take a picture quick? etc. I've done events and it can be a certain amount of waiting as people move in and out of the scene, and moving around and changing my vantage point.

There are a few things I would consider, however most cases, I would give them a few minutes and then just politely ask them how long they might be as I need to take a quick shot.

Just ask them, or wait for them to move.  Depends on my mood.
