Photo printer for high end landscape panoramic shots?

What's a good photo printer that is made for longer panoramic photos?  Something that can print shots upwards of 36" to 48" long and perhaps 20" to 24" tall?

Both Epson and Canon make commercial grade printers of that size. I don't think you could go wrong with either one.  Your primary limitation will be width (20"-24"). Landscape prints usually come out sideways.

If you want up to 24" tall, you don't have a lot of choice, big Canon or a big Epson. I think that unless you have money to throw way or plan on doing a lot of really big prints, your better off with a good 13" printer. One of my nephew's has an Epson7890 4" wide and hasn't had any trouble with it. I needs a stand and without the stand weight's 180+ pounds. To fill it with ink run's a lot, better than a thousand dollars. I think he said his cartridge's run about $250 +/- each. If your doing that many big, huge prints it might not be a bad idea, lot of ink in those tanks!. But if I was only doing a handfull of huge prints a year, I wouldn't get a 24" wide. Cheaper to pay someone else to do them.

He's had the printer a couple years now and no problem's with it!

Continuing on that line...

if you will be printing and selling a lot, a printer makes sense. The cost of the ink is irrelevant; it's cheaper to print your own on a per unit basis. The question is really whether you use it enough to justify the cost.

:agree:

It depends on how much money you want to spend, and if it makes sense. I would love to have a full photo plotter, but have and need are two different things. Then you can buy spools of paper to print from. Which is cheaper technically. Also remember that you can just use the back feeder to do banner images on any of the 13" printers. So you can go say 13x whatever you want if the image is large enough.

If I could spend less than $1000 I would be happy.  Does that change much?

Lot of good 13 wide printer's at $1000 and well under. I doubt you'll find a 24 wide for that kind of money. Oop's! I'm mistaken. HP Designjet T120 24" printer, $889. I had an HP 13 wide and it did a good job as long as it lasted, wasn't very long, maybe couple years. Very noisy printer.

Now are there any serious contenders other than from Canon, HP or Epson these days?
