How long to transition from Canon to Nikon?

I've been thinking about moving from Canon to Nikon for some time.  The D810 and the D5 I find to be very attractive cameras in terms of specs.  For those of you who have made the switch, how long did it take you to get used to the controls, and basic understanding of the new camera platform?

It wouldn't take long, but what makes you believe Canon isn't keeping pace? You also don't list what you have now. I would caution, slow down......Its NOT the gear that makes the photographer......
A Nikon owner......

Why so serious?

:agree:
Well when I moved to digital, I was shooting with Pentax film cameras. I switched over to Nikon because of their ability to use most of the legacy lenses.
But as asked by Ernesto where do you feel your Canon is failing you? Also I would like to know is how heavily invested in Canon are you?
If you just have an entry level camera, and what amounts to a couple of kit level lenses then go for it. If you have many lenses, and upper end gear that takes more thought.
Or you could shoot with both. I know a couple of people who do that.

A friend of mine just last summer made that jump.  Then moved to Sony!  He picked up each within I would guess a couple weeks.

You mind me asking what is the reason for moving?  I get it, the D810 and D5 have specs that you like.  What other reason for considering the move?

I went from Pentax (film) to Sony (digital), to Nikon, then to Canon...

I moved to Canon not for the camera, but for the range of glass...

40D to 7D (because I was shooting motorsport) and now 7DII...

Took me 3 days and I never really cared to go back to Canon.
